Clinics & Services

Health Promotion Clinics

These clinics are run by our specialist nurses. Their aim is to discover and treat conditions before they develop into major problems. Some of the areas we cover are asthma, diabetes, prevention of coronary heart disease and blood pressure.

Family Planning

Advice on all types of family planning (contraception advice) is available from the doctors and specialist nurses during normal surgery hours. We provide some contraceptive services including implants, injections and pills.

Antenatal Clinic

These clinics are run by the Midwives who are based at Wetherby Health Centre. They conduct clinics at Bramham Surgery on – Tuesday afternoons or Monday and Wednesday mornings at Wetherby Health Centre

Cervical Smears

All female patients are advised to have regular 3 yearly smear tests between the age of 24.5yrs and 50yrs. Then 5 yearly up to 64 years. This is an important procedure undertaken by our specialist nurses (or the female doctor if there are special circumstances).

Minor Surgery

We carry out various minor surgery procedures in our treatment rooms.

Counselling Clinics

Access to these clinics is via referral from the GP or alternatively, for mild to moderate depression/anxiety you can self -refer (read more on our "Mental Health & Wellbeing" page in the Further Information section opposite).

Exercise by Prescription

We are part of a scheme run by the Tadcaster Swimming Pool and Tadcaster Leisure Centre involving a programme of monitored exercise at a reduced cost. To use this service, you must make an appointment to see a GP.

Practice Nurses

As well as running the health promotion clinics, our nurses provide a wide range of services. Please enquire at Reception before making your appointment.

Private Medical Examinations

Medical examinations for special purposes, e.g. HGV medicals, Insurance medicals etc are undertaken by the doctors at the end of morning surgery. An appointment must be booked in advance. These are private services which will incur a fee.

Child Health & Immunisation

It is important that all pre-school children are fully immunised. All immunisations are performed by our specialist nurses in their routine clinics.

Vaccination Schedule

At two months old (8 weeks):

Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), Hepatitis B (DTaP/IPV/Hib/HepB) - one injection
Pneumococcal infection - pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) - one injection
Rotavirus - oral vaccine
Meningococcal Infection - MenB vaccine - one injection

At three months old (12 weeks):

Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), Hepatitis B (DTaP/IPV/Hib/HepB) - one injection
Rotavirus - oral vaccine

At four months old (16 weeks):

Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), polio and Heamophilus influenzae type b (Hib), Hepatitis B (DTaP/IPV/Hib/HepB) - one injection
Pneumococcal infection - pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) - one injection
Meningococcal Infection - MenB vaccine - one injection

At around 12-13 months old:

Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and meningitis C (Hib/MenC) - booster dose - one injection
Measles, mumps and rubella (German measles) (MMR) - one injection
Pneumococcal infection - pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) - one injection
Meningococcal Infection - MenB vaccine - one injection

2 and 3 year olds (children 4 years & above will be immunised at school):

Annual flu vaccine - nasal vaccine

3 years 4 months, or soon after (pre-school):

Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) and polio (DTaP/IPV) - one injection
Measles, mumps and rubella (German measles) (MMR) - one injection

12 to 13 years (girls):

Human papilloma virus (HPV) - one injection

14 years (usually given at school):

Tetanus, diphtheria and polio (Td/IPV) - one injection
Meningitis and septicaemia (MenACWY) - one injection

65 years and over:

Pneumococcal vaccine - one injection
Annual flu vaccine - one injection

70 years:

Shingles vaccine - one injection

Travel Vaccinations

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel, you first need to visit the website Travel Health Pro to determine what vaccinations you are required/advised to have. This will include which countries and areas within countries you are visiting.

It is up to you to decide what vaccinations to have.

You then need to make a 20 minute appointment with the practice nurse at least 2 weeks before you travel, to allow the vaccines to work.

When booking the appointment please inform the reception staff when and where you will be travelling, as some travel vaccines are not a stock vaccine and have to be ordered in advance. Some travel vaccines have to be ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Free travel vaccinations included on the NHS are:

Polio, Diphtheria and Tetanus booster (3 in 1 vaccine) - 10 years protection
Hepatitis A - 25 years protection after 2 doses
Typhoid fever - 3 years protection
Cholera (only if considered high risk)

All other travel vaccinations are treated as private for travel purposes. Therefore if your Travel Health Pro information recommend other vaccinations that we cannot provide, you can obtain them from a private travel clinic, but please be advised, you will need to book an appointment with a private travel clinic at least 6 weeks in advance of your intended trip, as you may need a course of vaccinations.

Bramham Medical Centre is not a registered Yellow Fever vaccination centre, therefore if your planned foreign travel requires you to have a Yellow Fever vaccination, you will need to find an alternative clinic.

If you are travelling to remote areas where access to medical care is limited, we strongly advise you carry a medical kit appropriate to the nature of your trip.

Non-NHS Services

Some services provided are not covered under our contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:

Medicals for pre-employment, sports and driving requirements (HGV, PSV etc.)
Insurance claim forms
Prescriptions for taking medication abroad
Private sick notes
Vaccination certificates
Fitness to travel certificates

The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our reception staff will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.

Fitness to Work Certificates

You only need a doctors note if you are unable to work and are ill for longer than 7 calendar days. Your employer will provide you with an SC2 self-certificate form for shorter periods of illness. We can provide form SC1 for unemployed or self-employed patients.

If you do need a Fitness to Work Certificate (sick note) after the 7 day period, you will need to have seen or make an appointment to be seen by a GP, before a certificate will be issued.
