Medications and Brexit
As Brexit approaches, the Government is working closely with the NHS and suppliers to make sure medicines and medical products continue to be available in all scenarios. NHS England has published a Frequently asked questions document, answering queries about how medications will be affected by Brexit.
New Telephone System - 31st January 2019
After advice from the CQC inspection in 2018, we moved our telephone answering system to a confidential area on 31st January 2019. Due to the size of the surgery this will now be managed offsite by trained, experienced staff. We have been working hard to make this as seamless as possible, but please be aware there may be a few teething problems during the changeover period
Prescribing Over the Counter medication is changing
Did you know that in Leeds in 2017-2018 we spent 3.2 million on prescribing over the counter medication. This is for medicines that can be purchased over the counter from pharmacies or supermarkets. After national consultation, NHS England have implemented national guidance and are asking GPs, nurses and pharmacists not to routinely prescribe medicines for a range of minor health concerns. For the majority of patients nothing will change and the GP decision will be on a case by case basis.
Please help the NHS use its resources sensibly. Rather than going to your GP, why not visit your pharmacy first, who can offer help and advice to manage minor health concerns.
