Non-urgent advice:

You may have heard that from 23rd June 2025 GPs can prescribe Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) for weight loss

Initially, the treatment will be available only to people with a BMI over 40 who also have weight-related health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dyslipidaemia.

THIS SERVICE IS NOT YET OPERATIONAL.

Please do not book appointments with your GP specifically to request this medication at this time, as it cannot be provided yet.

Mounjaro is being introduced gradually across the NHS and is currently only available to a small number of eligible patients who meet strict clinical criteria following a clinical assessment. There’s no need to contact the practice – if you qualify medically, your GP practice or the NHS will contact you directly, so there’s no need to get in touch first.

“Reception staff are not able to offer assessments or provide further information about eligibility, so please wait to be contacted if this treatment is appropriate for you.

“We understand that it may feel frustrating or disappointing if you’re not eligible for Mounjaro at this time – even if you’ve been hoping for this kind of support. Please know that other help is available, and we are committed to offering compassionate, personalised care to everyone who needs it.”

We will notify you as soon as the service is available. When it starts, eligible patients will be invited to participate.

Doctors will review patient records to identify those who qualify.
